SAP BW/4HANA System Refresh Procedure — Production to Quality
An SAP BW/4HANA system refresh copies the production BW/4HANA system to a lower environment (Quality, Pre-Production, Development) to ensure test systems reflect the current production state. While the HANA-level restore procedure is similar to an S/4HANA refresh, BW/4HANA has additional mandatory post-copy activities specific to its data warehousing architecture — particularly around source system reconnections, delta queue reset, process chain configuration, BW object reactivation, and ODP (Operational Data Provisioning) delta management. This runbook uses the HANA Backup & Restore method — the fastest and most reliable approach for homogeneous BW/4HANA copies. BW-specific activities in Phase 4 must be executed in the correct sequence to avoid data quality issues and prevent the refreshed QA system from inadvertently consuming production delta queues.

SAP BW/4HANA Release Version Upgrade Procedure
A SAP BW/4HANA Release Version Upgrade moves an existing BW/4HANA system from one major release to a newer one — for example, from BW/4HANA 2.0 to BW/4HANA 2021. Unlike an SPS update (which patches within the same release), a release upgrade brings new functional scope, new BW object types, new HANA optimization features, and major changes to the DW4CORE add-on version. It is executed using the Software Update Manager (SUM) in Release Upgrade mode. BW/4HANA release upgrades are significantly more complex than standard S/4HANA upgrades due to the nature of BW metadata — thousands of HANA-native objects (Calculation Views, Open ODS Views, CompositeProviders, Advanced DSOs) must be reactivated and validated after the upgrade, and all data pipeline processes (process chains, DTPs, transformations) must be verified end-to-end.

SAP Landscape Daily Health Check Runbook: S/4HANA · BW/4HANA · Gateway · SLT · HANA DB · IQ DB
This runbook defines the mandatory daily health check procedure for the SAP landscape. Health checks must be performed every working day before 09:00 AM local time. The on-duty Basis administrator is responsible for executing all checks, recording findings in the daily log, and escalating any RED (critical) finding immediately to the on-call engineer and IT manager. The runbook covers six system categories: SAP S/4HANA (the core ERP), SAP BW/4HANA (the data warehouse), SAP Gateway (OData/API layer), SAP SLT (real-time replication), SAP HANA Database (the shared database platform), and SAP IQ (the specialized analytics database). Each section follows the same structure: check commands, expected results, thresholds, and immediate actions.

SAP S/4HANA HA Deployment: Terraform + Ansible on GCP
This document provides a complete end-to-end procedure for deploying a highly available SAP S/4HANA 2023 landscape on Google Cloud Platform using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) for infrastructure provisioning and Configuration Management (Ansible) for SAP software deployment and configuration. The result is a fully automated, repeatable, production-grade SAP HA landscape.

SAP HANA 8 TB Instance — Performance Parameter Tuning for Massive Data Loads
An 8-terabyte SAP HANA instance represents a large-scale deployment that demands careful parameter tuning to unlock its full performance potential for data-intensive workloads. Out-of-the-box HANA parameters are tuned for conservative general-purpose operations. For massive data loads — BW/4HANA initial loads, S/4HANA data migration, SLT full initial replication, bulk HANA Cloud Integration data staging, or large-scale analytics ingestion — these defaults must be systematically overridden to exploit the available memory, CPU cores, and I/O bandwidth of an 8 TB system. This guide provides the complete parameter tuning reference specifically calibrated for an 8 TB HANA system handling high-volume data loads. Each parameter includes the recommended value, the ini file and section it belongs to, whether a restart is required, and the technical rationale for the 8 TB large-load context.

SAP HANA Backint Agent Configuration: AWS · Azure · GCP
SAP HANA Backint is a standardized backup API that allows SAP HANA to stream backup data directly to external storage systems — in cloud environments, this means cloud object storage (S3, Azure Blob, GCS) without requiring intermediate NFS staging or local disk storage. A Backint agent acts as the bridge between the HANA Backint API and the cloud storage backend, handling authentication, data streaming, parallel uploads, encryption, and retry logic. This document provides complete step-by-step configuration procedures for all three major cloud platforms, enabling SAP HANA backup administrators to configure Backint regardless of their cloud provider.
